Compost Surpise, onions found growing in our compost pile. A Tasty treat and an award winning painting.
Coming Up For Air, such fun in allowing more runs and using stencils for the first time.
Painting with watercolor on yupo allows you to remove the paint back to the white of the surface. I like to say, "The shape tells you what it is. Not the color."
By the Lake - The birds on the Gulf coast of Florida are so plentiful and unafraid of humans. Background created at the same time creating a yupo background.
Spotted Pony is a continuation of my love of horses. I love how the sediment in the paint created a texture in the background.
Statuesque - Inspired from a sculpture of Asian art. When I create backgrounds on yupo I often have a sheet of watercolor next to me for the excess paints from brushes, stamps and stencils.
Passages - Created during a live demonstration using handmade brushes and a squeegee.
Passages II - I love watching paint do it's own thing. Done laying flat with very little manipulation on my part.
Hidden Elements - I was focused on creating a nonrepresentational abstract. I thought I had succeeded but, every time I look at it I see different elements (things). It's kind of like looking at clouds.
Hidden Elements II - I did this painting while teaching a class. I was dying to steal a few minutes to paint. Finally the opportunity presented itself. In less than 20 minutes all but adding the color was there. This painting won Best In Show in a regional show.
Zion Remembered - Traveling to Zion National Park for the first time was an overload of the senses. I loved the cracks and what looked like stacked blocks on the faces of the mountains. May was hot. Bright colors accented the monotone of my surroundings.
Zion Remembered II - The start of this painting lay in a drawer for several years until this year (2023) when I looked at it again. It reminded me of my trip to Zion National Park. I recently received notice that it won the Winslow Homer Award (2nd place) in the 2023 Florida Watercolor Society's Annual Exhibition. A huge honor from such a prestigious society.
Feme and Fama - Roman goddesses of rumor and gossip.
Ana - Beautiful model. Completed in 2 hours during a weekly live model group.
The Color Purple - This is an acrylic pouring from when I was first experimenting with pouring. Her hair is part of the original pour.
